Step 1 — Choose Your Date and Package

Next, choose your package — return by car or return by train — followed by your traveler category (adult, student, or child), each priced accordingly. Finally, decide whether to pay a $180 USD deposit per person to secure your booking, or the full amount upfront. Click “Continue” to proceed.
Step 2 — Provide Traveler Details
Enter the booking contact’s information along with details for every participant. Review and accept the reservation’s terms and conditions, sign digitally, then click “Continue.”
Step 3 — Add Optional Extras
Here you can personalize your trek with optional add-ons: sleeping bag rental, trekking pole rental, the Lucmabamba zipline adventure, or an additional ticket for Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain (subject to availability from the Peruvian Ministry of Culture, confirmed immediately upon request). Note that only one mountain hike can be added per date — either Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain, not both on the same day. If you selected the train return option, you can also upgrade from the standard Expedition train to the Vistadome (this upgrade isn’t available with the car return option). Once finished, click “Continue.”
Step 4 — Travel Insurance (Optional)
You’ll have the option to add travel insurance to your booking. Review the available plans and choose what fits your needs, or click “Continue” to proceed without coverage.
Step 5 — Payment and Confirmation
Enter your payment details — credit card, debit card, bank transfer, or digital wallet — and click “Confirm Booking.” Your reservation is confirmed instantly, and you’ll receive a payment confirmation email at the address provided. Our team will then reach out via WhatsApp or email to verify your booking, confirm all trek details, and let you know about availability for any optional mountain hikes. If a selected mountain (Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain) turns out to be unavailable, that portion will be fully refunded. We believe in complete transparency from the start. Please review these terms carefully before booking so you can proceed with full confidence.
1. Booking Deposit
Confirming your reservation requires a non-refundable deposit of $180 USD per person. This deposit secures your spot on the trek and is used immediately to purchase your Machu Picchu entrance ticket and, when applicable, your train tickets. Once paid, this deposit remains strictly non-refundable and non-transferable under any circumstance, regardless of how far in advance you cancel.
2. Remaining Balance Payment
If you paid only the deposit, the remaining balance must be settled no later than 48 hours before your tour begins. Failure to complete payment within this window may result in automatic cancellation without refund.
The remaining balance can be paid:
- In person at our Cusco office, via credit card, debit card, or cash (Peruvian soles or US dollars)
- Online through our booking platform
If payment hasn’t been completed within the 48-hour window, our platform is authorized to charge the outstanding amount to the same card or account used for your initial deposit.
3. Machu Picchu & Additional Mountain Tickets
Machu Picchu entrance tickets are issued directly by the Peruvian Ministry of Culture and are strictly non-refundable, non-transferable, and non-modifiable. No date or name changes are permitted once tickets are issued — this regulation comes from the Peruvian government, not from Machu Picchu Team.
The same policy applies to optional mountain tickets (Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain), which carry limited availability and additional cost. All tickets are purchased immediately upon booking confirmation and sent to you by email, meaning these costs cannot be reimbursed under any circumstances.
Important: only one mountain hike can be added per date — either Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain, never both on the same day.
4. Cancellation Policy
All cancellation requests must be submitted in writing to our official email address. The following penalties apply:
- More than 48 hours before departure: loss of the $180 USD non-refundable deposit per person
- Within 48 hours of the tour start date: loss of 100% of the total amount paid, with no refund
If you paid the full amount and choose to cancel, you’ll receive a partial refund of the remaining balance after deducting the non-refundable deposit ($180 USD per person), the cost of any tickets already purchased (Machu Picchu, Huayna Picchu, or Machu Picchu Mountain), and any non-refundable services confirmed in your booking (such as the Vistadome upgrade). Bank processing fees are also non-refundable.
If you paid only the deposit and cancel, no refund will be issued.
Any tickets already purchased in your name remain valid for personal use on their original date, should you choose to visit Machu Picchu independently, since tickets are issued per participant and cannot be transferred.
5. Train Tickets
When your package includes train service, tickets are subject to the policies of Peru Rail or Inca Rail. These tickets are non-refundable, and date changes depend on availability and may involve additional charges.
6. Passenger Responsibilities
You’re responsible for providing accurate personal information exactly as it appears on your passport. Errors in names, passport numbers, or other details may result in denied entry to Machu Picchu, extra costs, or loss of services — without any right to a refund.
All required documents — particularly your passport and, for students, a valid university ID — must be submitted immediately after booking. Delays in providing these documents may result in ticket unavailability, for which no refund applies.
7. Itinerary Changes and Force Majeure
Machu Picchu Team reserves the right to modify, suspend, or cancel any part of the itinerary due to circumstances beyond our control — severe weather, strikes, road closures, government restrictions, or train service disruptions. In such cases, no refund or compensation is guaranteed, though we’ll always work to provide a suitable alternative.
8. Risk Assumption
By booking this tour, you acknowledge that high-altitude trekking carries inherent risks, including altitude sickness, sudden weather changes, physical exhaustion, and limited access to immediate medical care. Machu Picchu Team’s liability is limited except in cases of proven negligence or willful misconduct on our part.
9. Travel Insurance
We strongly recommend purchasing comprehensive travel insurance before your trip, covering medical emergencies, evacuation, cancellations, lost luggage, and repatriation — ideally arranged in your home country before traveling to Peru.
10. Passenger Conduct
All participants are expected to behave respectfully toward fellow travelers, staff, and the natural and cultural heritage along the route. Machu Picchu Team reserves the right to remove any participant whose conduct endangers the group, staff, or environment, with no refund issued in such cases.
11. Claims and Complaints
Any complaints or claims must be raised during the tour itself or within a maximum of 3 calendar days after its completion. After this period, the service is considered accepted as satisfactory.
12. Legal Jurisdiction
This agreement is governed by the laws of Peru. In the event of a dispute, both parties agree to first attempt resolution through conciliation in Cusco. If no agreement is reached, the matter will be submitted to the competent courts of Cusco, Peru.

We prioritize Circuit 2 – Route 2-A (Classic Route), offering iconic panoramic views and access to key archaeological sectors. If unavailable, Circuit 2 – Route 2-B serves as an excellent alternative. The exact circuit assigned depends on availability at the time of booking.
4. Can I add Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain to my itinerary?
Yes, both are available as optional add-ons for $65 USD each. Since availability is limited, we recommend booking these early alongside your trek reservation. Note that only one mountain hike can be added per date.
5. What happens if it rains during the trek?
The Salkantay Trek 4 Days route can experience rain at any time, especially during the wet season (November–April). While weather doesn’t typically cancel the trek, it’s essential to pack proper rain gear, including a waterproof jacket, pants, and a poncho, to stay comfortable throughout the journey.
6. Is the Humantay Lake entrance fee included in the tour price?
No, this fee is paid separately and directly at the entrance — 20 soles for international visitors and 10 soles for Peruvian citizens, payable only in cash.
7. Can I return to Cusco by train instead of by car?
Yes, both options are available when booking. Returning by train includes a scenic train ride through the Sacred Valley and generally costs more than the return by car via Hidroeléctrica.
8. Do I need to bring my own sleeping bag?
Not necessarily. While you’re welcome to bring your own, we offer sleeping bag rentals for $10 USD, rated for temperatures as low as -10°C, which is more than adequate for the cold nights at higher elevations.
9. Is tipping mandatory for the trekking staff?
No, tipping is entirely optional and left to your discretion. While it’s a common practice in Cusco’s tourism industry, our staff already receive fair wages, so any tip is simply a gesture of appreciation, not an obligation.
